morning comes

mourning comes
and my whimpering soul
lies shallow across my chest

stretched like tear-fed pools
mirroring the fluid sky
framed by lichen-licked rocks of grief

memories slide by
like drifting clouds
glinting sun
rhythmic rippling drops
shattering lightning
gently swirling mist

each fluid dance one step
each moment one breath closer
to losing you

i hear your voice in the other room
and i stretch my soul to reflect
one more impression
that glides away with the wind
